In January we were among 10,000 people to attend the Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP) Grand Tasting where more than 300 wineries were showing off their Zinfandels. The gargantuan event was held in a warehouse on the water at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We went early to beat the crowds in search of exciting new Zinfandels for the store.
To help you see why Zin is so loved, we have put together another six pack, this one includes our favorites (and some of yours too). The six Zins are priced at great discount and include Old Vine and new from the best vineyards in Napa and Sonoma.

2005 Peter Franus, Mount Veeder- This 2005 Brandlin Vineyard Zin is a seductive, voluptuous, and seamless wine that will bring a smile to your face. Full of ripe blueberry, vanilla, and pepper flavors. The finish is smooth and long with no hard edges, and aging in French oak adds another layer of complexity and elegance.
2005 Dogwood Cellars, Mendocino- Aromas of summer berries and allspice are followed by flavors of chocolate covered cherries, blueberries, raspberries, cinnamon, and white pepper. This wine offers a lengthy finish with creamy vanilla oak and bright acids. Enjoy now or over the next five years.
2006 Downing Family “Fly by Night”, Oakville- The 2005 takes us back to the fabled 1999 Fly by Night with many of the same characteristics that made the 1999 stand out from the crowd. Bright crisp fruit, remarkable balance, and Cabernet like depth and complexity define this Zinfandel as something special. Only 725 cases produced.
2006 Brown Estate, Chiles Valley – Brown Estate puts out one of the top five Zinfandels in California. Located in Napa’s Chiles Valley, this vineyard produces Zins of great complexity and rich flavor, without being too over-the-top.
2005 Starry Night Tom Feeney Ranch, Russian River Valley – Wine Club members have re-ordered this wine at alarming rates. A rich and elegant Old Vine Zin, it was a Gold Medal Winner at the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
2006 Mantra, Alexander Valley- A huge Wine Club hit from earlier this year, this wine is nearly perfectly balanced. It exhibits aromas of ripe raspberry, blueberry and spice along with nice acidity and a mouth coating finish.
